You will frequently hear people talking about flying drones and controlling the Roll, Pitch, Yaw and Throttle. This section will teach you the basic terms and explain how this translates into the controls or your radio controller.
Flight control terms
Roll: The Roll control is the left to right roll of your drone. Moving your Roll stick to the left will cause the left side of your drone to lower and the right side to raise. This movement causes your drone to move either left or right depending on the direction your roll stick is moved.
Pitch: The Pitch control is the forwards and backwards movement of your drone. Moving the Pitch stick forwards causes the front of your drone to lower and the rear of your drone to raise. This movement causes your drone to move either forwards or backwards depending on the direction your pitch stick is moved.
Yaw: The Yaw stick is used to control the direction of your drone. Moving the Yaw stick left cause the front of your drone to twist left and the rear of your drone to twist right. This movement causes your drone to rotate in place in either clockwise or counter clockwise direction depending on the direction your Yaw stick is moved
Throttle: The Throttle is used to control the speed of your motors and props. Moving the Throttle stick forwards or up increases the speed of your motors and causes your drone to increase altitude or move forward if you are also moving the Pitch controls forward at the same time.
Learn your Radio Controls
The first thing you need to get familiar with is the radio controls for your drone. The sticks are used to control movement of your drone and various switches and knobs are used to change flight modes, Return To Land (RTL) your drone and accessory controls such as Gimbal orientation.
Mode 1 – Right Stick is Power and Yaw, Left stick is Roll and Pitch
Mode 2 – Left Stick is Power and Yaw, Right stick is Roll and Pitch
